The New Arrivals

They are almost ready! I am so excited to release my new toddler shoes styles out onto the world this upcoming February 15th. In the meantime, enjoy some sneak peaks of what were in for in the next week!

The Oxford

Sort of like a sneaker, these shoes lace on tight so the toddler cannot escape. Muaa ha haa!

(not that they want to, my daughter loves hers)

These will come also come in a dark mossy brown shade.

The Derby

We have a smoked deer hide option in a sandy gold color. You know the smell when your outside and you catch a whiff of someones wood burning fire releasing its wonderful scent to your nose?  Yeah, these shoes smell like that.

I also made a two toned cowhide set because they are fun and, why not?

The Toddler Purse

Because every toddler needs a designer hand bag. You know, for cookies and stuff.

I hope you all are as excited as I am for the product launch on Feb 15. Check it out then!!

Creating Classy Content, you tell me!

Hello again...

So I'm trying to think about what content I want to have for this blog. I want it to be interesting, enjoyable and useful to you. I want to have a blog for me and for my business, but I want to be about stuff you want actually want to read.

I stopped to think logically for a second and realized that the best way to do that would be to ask! I came up with a list to sort of give you an idea of where I think I want to go, but if no one wants to hear about it, its out! So please offer suggestions, tell me if I came up with idiotic ideas, and let me know if you have any connections or experts you know of in the areas of #1 and 2 that might be fun to have featured. I would love to hear what you have to say, because I want it to be good stuff!

1. Art and Artisan Goods ~I would like to feature other artists and makers out there and what they are up to. For example, I just found this awesome lady on etsy who is making hats for toddlers similar to my pointy hood hat that I LOVE and I would love to feature her and her products here. Sort of to be a source for all things classy and infant-preschool related.

2. Mom stuff ~This would be stuff like, home remedies, craft ideas, parenting philosophies, toddler yoga, is it possible?

3. Personal Stories ~poop stories, potty training, cooking blunders, grocery store tantrums, life as it happens to us.

4. Behind the scenes ~more focused on my stuff. shoe making, sewing machine pics, basically the stuff as it is being created.

5. Tutorials? How to leather follow alongs for anyone wanting to try their hand at making something out of leather.

If any of this sounds interesting to you, then please let me know in the comments, or let me know about your specific ideas and I can see what I can do. Thanks!

Classy Baby Who?

I wanted to make a short little ditty about the makings of Classy Baby and what my goals are for the company.

A bit about me first if you don't mind. I'm Amy, co-owner with my husband of Classy Baby Co. I love making things, especially out of fabrics, leather, and sewing related crafts. I have always dreamed that maybe, some day, I could make things that were magical, intriguing, and good enough that other people would want to buy from me.

I remember setting up a "store" and making do-dads out of paper and tape with my brother as a child and making my mom come and "shop" at our store. I started working with leather when I was 10 years old. My first project was a pair of soft sole moccasins. I wore them until they had holes.

My favorite job ever was when I worked for the Costume Shop at Dordt College getting to create garments for theater. There is something so exciting about creating something with my own two hands.

When I had my daughter, I was disappointed by the quality of the selection of footwear, and, well, everything the big box stores had for children. So I started making things for her myself. Cute things, comfortable things, but most importantly, quality items. Stuff she could be proud of, won't wear out right away, and stuff she could feel grown up in. Things she could use as she grows big and strong and clever and brave and kind.

I like to think there are other folks out there who want the same.  I hope you enjoy my store Classy Baby Co, and can find some quality baby and toddler items that can suit your own child's desire to be big, strong, clever, brave, and kind.

Why your toddler NEEDS Soft Sole Shoes

soft sole toddler shoes

Sure, we've seen those adorable tiny cutesy puedo shoes with soft cotton soles on itty bitty babies, but heres why toddlers are actually the age group that needs those soft soles.

Balance

Toddlers are called "toddlers" for a reason. They toddle, unbalanced and uncoordinated through much of this phase of their lives. They are still developing their balance and coordination when it comes to basics like walking. Most toddlers go from not being able to walk at all to running and jumping and climbing on jungle gyms. In order for them to accomplish this well, they are going to need soft, flexible shoes that allow them to bend their feet and feel the ground with their toes. Thick rubber soles keep the feet from bending as they walk, resulting in an inability to regain balance when they start to tumble.

Growth

Soft sole shoes are roomier and do not restrict the foot as much as they grow. Softer soles also allow toddlers to develop important muscles in their foot that will help with balance and strengthen their ankle muscles which ultimately helps their posture be straight and balanced as well.

Protection

No one wants to see their child hurt by sharp or pointy objects on the ground, and a good soft sole shoe helps assist with this. Try to pick one out with a semi-thick leather sole that will remain flexible, but keep out anything too hot, too cold or pointy.

Comfort

With a soft sole shoe, it is easy to tell where the end of their toes are, so there is no guess work as to whether they are too small, too big, or just right. In addition, if you think of soft soles like slippers, which one do you think you would choose if you want to be comfortable? Comfort helps a toddler forget about his shoes all together and focus on the important things in life, like figuring out how to get the secret candy stash on top of the fridge... Cognitive development! I meant cognitive development :)
